Our Story

LANACare was created by Danish nurse Jeannette Almstrøm in 1990 in Denmark. Being a mother of three children herself, and bringing a professional background in both nursing and textile design, Jeannette developed a range of products for mothers and babies in organic pure merino wool — each one designed to promote the health and well-being of the nursing mother and baby.

She saw wool as the perfect, natural material for newborns: breathable, soft, gentle on sensitive skin, and completely natural. Wool is 100% biodegradable, renewable, and has been trusted by generations before us. At LANACare, we produce each item to provide the soothing comfort and breathable warmth that only pure wool can give.

Today, all LANACare activity is managed by Jeannette Almstrøm herself — passionate about finding new sustainable materials and promoting not only the health of the individual, but that of our Mother Earth.

The LANACare journey

Jeannette Almstrøm, a Danish nurse and mother of three, founded LANACare in 1990. Her unique combination of skills — professional nursing experience and a background in textile and design — made her ideally suited to create products that were both medically thoughtful and beautifully made.

Over the years, LANACare has grown from a small Danish brand into a worldwide wool production company, with products sold in 28 countries and its own production facility in Lithuania. Through it all, Jeannette has remained at the centre of every decision — personally overseeing quality, sourcing, and new product development.

Where our wool comes from

LANACare organic wool fibre traces to Argentina's Patagonian fields, where wool is sourced from carefully selected farmers with healthy sheep who graze freely on chemical-free land. None of our farmers use the mulesing method. Before arriving at LANACare, the wool is processed in a certified wool factory in Germany, following the highest organic standards. The certified organic wool then arrives at our production facility in Lithuania, where it is knitted, sewn into final products, and packed for shipment.

In this way, LANACare wool is clean and traceable from the sheep all the way to your baby.

Philosophy & Mission

To dress our children and the breastfeeding mother in pure, mulesing-free, extremely soft and comfortable merino wool — that brings health and comfort for mother and baby, while caring for the world they will grow up in.

Social Responsibility

LANACare has worked with wool for over 30 years. Wool is a completely natural, biodegradable, and renewable resource — sheep grow a new wool coat every year that must be cut for their health. We aim to work with responsible farmers who treat their animals and soil well, ensuring no chemicals enter the environment.

Our production facility in Lithuania maintains a Scandinavian ethos of care: positive working conditions, a friendly environment, and every employee contributing directly to the quality of the final product.
